Happy Thanksgiving everyone, here is some Dhamma, don’t be a common person lacking integrity, an ungrateful person, be a rare gem in the world :


“Bhikkhus, these two kinds of persons are rare in the world. What two? One who takes the initiative in helping others and one who is grateful and thankful. These two kinds of persons are rare in the world.” – AN 2.119

an 2.32 “Monks, I will teach you the level of a person of no integrity and the level of a person of integrity. Listen & pay close attention. I will speak.” “As you say, lord,” the monks responded.The Blessed One said, “Now what is the level of a person of no integrity? A person of no integrity is ungrateful & unthankful. This ingratitude, this lack of thankfulness, is advocated by rude people. It is entirely on the level of people of no integrity. A person of integrity is grateful & thankful. This gratitude, this thankfulness, is advocated by civil people. It is entirely on the level of people of integrity.”

AN 5.264-271:Bhikkhus, without having abandoned these five things one is incapable of entering and dwelling in the first jhana…second jhana…third jhana…fourth jhana…realizing the fruit of stream entry…the fruit of once-returning…the fruit of non-returning…the fruit of arahantship. What five? Miserliness with regard to dwellings, miserliness with regard to families, miserliness with regard to gains, miserliness with regard to praise, and ingratitude or unthankfulness.–

AN 5.195: Licchavis, the manifestation of five gems is rare in the world. What five? (1) The manifestation of a Tathagata, an Arahant, a Perfectly Enlightened One is rare in the world. (2) A person who can teach the Dhamma and discipline proclaimed by a Tathagata is rare in the world. (3) When the Dhamma and discipline proclaimed by a Tathagata has been taught, a person who can understand it is rare in the world. (4) When the Dhamma and discipline proclaimed by a Tathagatha has been taught, a person who can understand it and practice in accordance with the Dhamma is rare in the world. (5) A grateful and thankful person is rare in the world.
